If the energy interests you, here is two conferences for you:

Conference 1: Why is Hydrogen a solution to climate change?

Hydrogen offers many possibilities as a future energy vector. The available technologies, the target markets, hydrogen role in electrical vehicules and pre-commercialization successes will be presented.

It is very important for Canada and Quebec to understand hydrogen role in the future energy solutions. Quebec has a lot of expertise in electricity and hydrogen, why not use this.

Speaker: Pierre Gauthier, Director, Hydrogen Energy, North America, Air Liquide, Montreal

Since 1993, Pierre is a member of Air Liquide's Executive Team. Since September 2006, he is leading the development of all hydrogen related projects in North America. Having been trained at Concordia University in Commerce and at McGill University in Management, he held a wide variety of key roles in production, distribution, human resources, marketing, sales and business management over the last 30 years. Currently Chairman of the Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association, he was and continues to be very active in many projects tagged "World's First". For example, the wind to hydrogen initiative in Prince Edward Island, the Fuel Cell bus project in British Columbia, the Ford F-450 hydrogen internal combustion engine Program, the "Project Driveway" initiative with GM's Equinox and the hydrogen forklift Program at the GM-Oshawa plant. Under the association's leadership, many programs are sustained such as the Hydrogen Village, the Hydrogen Highway in BC and the Ford fuel cell vehicule testing in Vancouver.

Conference 2: Introduction to Smart Grids – Hydro-Québec Distribution

Around the world, the electrical power industry is facing increasing challenges. In the last years, information and telecommunications technologies have also developed tremendously. The fusion of these technologies to the electrical distribution network could help meet those new challenges. This is called "Smart Grids". The ways to define this depend on those involved and their interest. For power distributors, the technological applications must be chosen in accordance to business objectives and understanding of the long term industry trends.

The presentation will give a picture of Hydro-Québec network evolution in general and will also include short term Hydro-Québec projects on smart grids.

Speaker: Georges Simard, eng. M Eng., Engineer in Network Development, Orientations technologiques, Hydro-Québec Distribution

Georges Simard is an engineer who got his first diploma in 1978 and his Master degree in 1998 from Polytechnique. He is in the team Orientations technologiques, from the unit Orientations du réseau de distribution from the Direction Gestion de l'actif since 1999.

He has developed his knowledge in the Laurentides region in the field of distribution network, mainly in network protection, production and network integration and wave form quality.

Since 2006, he has been responsible for the planning of Hydro-Québec network evolution. He participates in many groups on standards (IEEE, EPRI and IEC). He is a senior member of IEEE and the President of IEEE Smart Distribution Working Group.

Since June 2009, he participates to the Smart Distribution System Research activities from the Electrical Power Research Institute (EPRI) in the United States
.

Annual General Meeting

Monday, May 31, 2010 at 6:00 PM

Centre d’affaires de Verdun

4400 LaSalle Boulevard, Verdun QC H4G 2A8

The ISA Montreal Section invites you to join us on MONDAY, MAY 31, 2010 for our Annual General Meeting, to elect our 20102011 Section Board and conduct other Section business. To make it easier for you to be present, we are offering, as last year, the possibility of attending via teleconference. To attend in this manner, you need only to dial in a few minutes before the meeting using a number that will be provided to you.

To entice you even more to attend, we are offering a light supper FREE OF CHARGE to all members attending the meeting in person.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you plan to attend the meeting, and whether in person or by teleconference. If by teleconference, we will send you the number to dial, and we will do our best to get the meeting documentation other than the agenda to you in time for the meeting. If in person, use the map to get to the Centre d’affaires de Verdun and the rest of the documents will be given to you upon your arrival.

We have verified that this manner of holding a meeting is in accord with the Quebec Corporations Act. This law requires that all participants in a meeting be able to hear each other. A teleconference meeting meets this requirement.
